PLASTA Supports Indian Resident Doctors
29th September 2024
Position Statement 29th September 2024: UK Plastic Surgery Trainee Association (PLASTA) in Solidarity with Indian Resident Doctors
The UK Plastic Surgery Trainee Association (PLASTA) stands in unwavering solidarity with the Indian resident doctors and the Resident Doctors Association (RDA) in their pursuit of justice and equitable working conditions. We are deeply saddened and appalled by the recent tragic events, including the murder and rape of a resident doctor, which highlight the urgent need for systemic change and improved protection for healthcare professionals.
PLASTA believes that healthcare professionals should be able to work in a safe and supportive environment without fear of violence or discrimination. The incidents that have occurred in India are a stark reminder of the challenges faced by doctors worldwide and the importance of advocating for their well-being.
We urge the Indian government to take immediate action to address the root causes of these atrocities and to implement measures to ensure the safety and security of healthcare professionals. We hope that peaceful dialogue and constructive engagement between the RDA and the government will lead to a resolution that safeguards the rights and interests of resident doctors and brings justice to the affected family.
PLASTA is committed to supporting the Indian resident doctors in their fight for justice and equality. We believe that strikes should be unnecessary in order to achieve justice. We hope that by working together, we can create a more just and equitable healthcare system for all.
Yours faithfully,
PLASTA UK Executiv
